Williamsburg, December 27. Fresh and authentic advices from
St. Eustatia, bring the agreeable news, that a French fleet
at eight sail of the line, and four frigates, under the
command of M. Ducharaux had sailed from Brest, for the
Islands of Martinico and Guadaloupe, with a number of
transports, having on board 7000 troops and 3000 pieces of
ordnance. . . [11 lines expressing the hope that the French
would help defeat the Hessian troops]
  Our groaning country bleeds at every vein;
  [   ] rapes, [   ] massacres prevail,
  And desolation covers all the land!
  Who can hear this, and not with patriot zeal,
  Nobly step forth to guard their wives and children!
  And sheath a dagger in the villain's heart
  Who'd rob us of our peace, our all, our honour!
. . . [50 lines, 7 lines of news]
